Exmouth to Broome

Hot Fuss!

In the meantime the plan was to leave Exmouth with the Israeli dudes towards Karinjini. As the temperatures were rising coming from the coast into the desert, so was the every day situation getting more tensed.

If the days get hotter you normally start earlier with hiking. With the Israeli guys sleeping till 10 or 11 in the morning there was almost no other possibility to hike during the hottest part of the day in the full sun. The lack of communication about what time to start ended up in forceful discussions and me being accused to be stressed. Not to delay the group any further I told everyone I am going for bird watching in the early hours and that everyone can join. Also they didn’t need to wait for me to go on day trips in the park.’t willing to be part of the group. Very German like they didn’t tolerate this and fussed about this too. Now I was selfish. Probably jealous? I met the park ranger that morning and he took me everywhere and hitch hiked easily back to our camp site. Was that bothering them?

I had a great time anyway. This national park is literally stuffed with gorges and waterfalls that feed some of the finest pools I swum in. The lush and green environment of the gorges is a big contrast compared to the rolling red sand hills covered by spinifex plants (=spiny grass). Our timing was good, since many of the plants started to flower with amazing colours and shapes.

I ignored the hysterical signs with dingo warnings. The park ranger told me that they are not harmful and that is very likely to find them maybe even near my tent. Joke or not, but the first night I went around for my dingo hunt. Nothing. As I spent the whole day in the gorges and   natural swimming pools, the dingo story couldn’t let me go. It was only untill the last night that a dingo sat next to my tent howling for 15 minutes. It didn’t seems to be scared but rather curious when I pointed my torch on him. What a beauty of an animal. In the end I had to scare him away to continue my sleep in the tent. To my opinion this is so far one of Australia’s best parks I’ve seen.
