End of laziness
Even in paradise you’ll need to think about the ‘future’. I decided to continue to live my dream: back to work! I found a WWOOF (willing worker on organic farms) place located 130 km from Broome called Ecobeach. This is an eco retreat with an organic garden; the place I worked for 3 weeks. I had a wonderful time up here; not in the last place because we had the right to use all facilities just like the paid guests. In my first week I went on a whale tour. Sure the baby whale and his mom gave away a impressive show. Flapping tails, fins and tumbling upside down. As the calve came so close to the boat I could even see the little hairs of this pieceful sea creature. Every single detail of the whale’s skin was visible making this unforgettable, captured in my heart. If you think the whales were the highlight then you’re wrong! Shortly after the whales a dugong appeared to the water surface swimming gently around the boat. Normally very shy it stayed with us for 5 minutes! For a while I thought someone was playing a national geographic documentary, but I realized it was real. Some beautiful coloured sea snakes swam close to the boat and a flat back turtle visited us. And that on a free tour!
Don’t worry, I worked too. About 5 to 6 hours a day I spent working in the garden. Planting and harvesting veggies and fruits. Watering, raking, and fixing the fence were my main activities. A good job as I could do it on my own and nobody who came to check me. In exchange for my work I got free food and accomodation. The food was cooked in the restaurant kitchen and was very good. Also I had my own safari tent full yequiped with bed, closets and linen.
In this paradise a followed yoga classes in the early mornings. My teacher, Julie, learned me many stretching techniques. I should have done this ages ago. I felt nice and loose after each session.
With me, another girl started WWOOFing too. Carol is her name. It was good we hang out with each other during work and activities as most member of the staff did not really speak to us. You can imganine how happy we were to leave from Ecobeach again. After having a very good time. As a matter of coincidences she decided to go to Darwin. I offred her to go with me on the 4-day road trip. So that means I got a new travel buddy!
A bad-ass trip
2000 km we’re going to travel. For only 4 dollars we got the camper for 4 days including 250 dollars fuel allowance. Not bad at all. We are stopping in a few national parks such as Geiki Gorge, Mirima NP, and Nitmiluk NP. Arriving in the next capital, Darwin, on the 8th of October. In the tropics, in a new time zone (GMT+8.5) in a different state (Northern Territory). I’ll be working 4-6 weeks on a mango farm 30 min south of Darwin. Slowly going into the wet season… Maybe they should start a wet t-shirt competition too. Every single day… 🙂
Keep living the dream.
