The first week

Saturday 09 April

Day 2 began with some hassles… ๐Ÿ™ yep and again the gps. It just refuses flatly! ๐Ÿ™ It took the whole way to the start point of my transect to get that stupit thing working. But when it worked; day 2 began with some 2 beautiful transects. From the car there was time to spot something…..but for what? We spotted a group of elephants….so close! I estimate the distance 20-30 meters. That was such a fantastic start. ๐Ÿ™‚ This day I also spotted a grims duiker and a bush buck. Of course a lot of antelopes were present. Half way of the transect my guide (Yadjie) attent saw them. The transect ended in the gallery forest. This type of vegetation near near the river habits lots of colobes and elephants. Also it’s the entrance for the hippos to the hippo mares in the Benouรฉ river. I went to the hippo mare with my guide. I stoodn on a very high rock, watching the hippos. Magnificent, such big animals with a huge head…..;just unbelievable. Also lucky I could make some nice pictures from near.

In the evening, during the meal, we made a plan for a night drive. That just means that you’re driving in the car and try to look at animals with the help of a searchlight. It was succesfull!! First a civet….that’s a kind of cat. Then we saw a rabbit ๐Ÿ˜‰ never seen before in my life ๐Ÿ˜‰ and some monkeys. Unfortunately no lions, hippos, elephants :)but they stay on my :);) ‘badly wanted list'(=BWL).
Till now I was very lucky to see so many animals. I hope tomorrow there’re more.

The third day: My wish came true……Animals that I’ve seen: oribi, antelopes, bush bucks, water bucks, red flanked and grims duiker.
And here’re the animals from my BWL:
girafs: seen from a small distance (150 meters) ๐Ÿ™‚
two pumbas! (warthog=wrattenzwijn) ;):) one of my favourite species, so lucky and awsome men…..one baby pumba and a mother pumba, how cute. I hope to see them often during my transects.
The rest of the week I also met a crocodile on the sand bank of the river. Also seen hippos from very close, but from a very steep and high rock, so there was no danger at all. I definitely go back to this hippo mare next time I walk these transects.
Friday was the final day for Paul and Lisette. they had the opportunity to choose a meal for that evening. It was such a great meal. As a surprise we arranged a large cake with some soft drinks after dinner. The cake was very heavy for my stomach but had a creamy and very sweet taste. After eating the cake we watched the movie Kill Bill 2. As the final actrivity for Paul and Lisette.
