Krasnoyarsk

The next day I explored again one of thousand similar Siberian cities. Although, Krasnoyarsk is different in two ways. First of all there is a hilarious land mark in the city centre: the unfinished skyscraper, with glass and steel reaching half way covering the concrete floors… it has been under construction for almost 7 years and the optimistic planning is due for completion in 5 years… “or they forgot the zero at the end (50)”; Olga found it funny and replied “yes you know, it’s Russia”. The second thing I like of Krasnoyarsk is the nearby nature, which is well accessible by a set of bridges that connect the small islands. Some are not restricted and are places for nature.

In the evening I visited a concert with my host in the concert hall. “Volga” as the band was called with typical lyrics and music from Siberia. It was a nice and welcomed cultural break in my travels.

I finished my stay in Krasnoyarsk to find the gorge where on of the side rivers cut through for millions of years. This is the place to be! Simple, just catch a bus to the nearby village, walk on a road through the village, ignore the stupid barking dogs, and then arrive at the gorge without fainting. Spectacular to see this half gorge (the other side is lower lime stone, so then you cannot call it a ral gorge). Discovered by myself which would be an awesome place for recreation such as kayaking and hiking in summer. Unfortunately I was not able to hike in or to the top of the gorge because the snow can hide some dangerous cliff sides.

With this being the final activity in Krasnoyarsk I cannot cope with the idea to leave this town 🙁

For the completion I have an appointment at Olga’s office where she will be interviewing me about my visit to her city. It’s an international project, so I will be part of this movie… getting famous 😉

Now really the Baikalo Amurskaya Magistral (BAM-railway line) is waiting for me… sorry guys, see you back on my blog…

Take it easy.

Research questions

– will I get to Stolby and its gorge in winter time?
Kind off, with -32 degrees celcius
