East Coast

The wet tropical rainforest was the last bit of the journey and Marjo left in the meantime back to Amsterdam. During my final days in Cairns I took the Kuranda Scenic Railway from Cairns to the rainforest village Kuranda. I was lucky that I had a free upgrade to gold class and my own carriage, just because the staff liked me, haha! At least I had the privilege to take some great shots while I was enjoying the train journey. The town itself is packed with eco friendly locals, market stalls in the rainforest and some good hiking trails in the jungle that leads to waterfalls and gorges.

<p>During my final days in Cairns I took the Kuranda Scenic Railway from Cairns to the rainforest village Kuranda. I found it one of the most scenic railways I’ve taken so far. The view into the gorge and the numerous waterfalls is not possible to describe.

Time flew unfortunately and the delayed rainy season showed signs to start up. I had to cancel my trip to the Great Barrier reef and Undara Volcanic NP as well the trip to Cape York. The latter is only accessible during the dry season and for snorkeling the dry season is also better. At least this gives me enough reason to come back to Cairns and travel these final bits.

The trip was phenomenal and unforgettable. I hope you enjoy all photos and videos. Next time time I’ll write more about embedded racism in this country and the start of my PhD at the University of Western Australia.

C ya mates!
