Laos

Sabaidee!

More than 7 months on the road, that is the date for today. Missing you all a lot. Therefore it was so good to read all your emails, facebook messages and so one. Unfortunately I was not able to reply to all of them, but I definitely read them!

The weeks after Vietnam changed a lot. I met Peter in Bangkok from where we travelled together to Chiang Mai. After Chiang Mai, which was day 4, we decided to split up and follow our own route. I ended up alone doing most of Northern Thailand. And I continued to Laos where I visited a conservation project and a organization that promotes reading amongst children. For these projects I raised money so that a local village can have books too.  Thanks for all your replies and help; I ended up with more than a couple of books. You find the results of te fundraising here.

North Thailand

I haven’t done so many different things in a couple of weeks. From cooking, flying over tree canopies, and mountain biking in the charming villages this part of the world is rich of. Trekkings in the forests of North Thailand are very good. I met a local guide from Pai and he showed me around in the jungle and brought us to local (remote) villages on a 2 day tour. The days before in Chiang Mai, I ended up with a local restaurant owner where we followed a cooking class. I learned how to make Pad Thai and noodle soup. Both really delicious dishes. The forestry north of Thailand was an important part for my travels. Getting to know the local villages and having an experience in the jungle. I tend to escape culture and visit nature. Not this time. Chiang Mai did not dissapoint me at all. The second largest city feels more like a sleepy town with many temple sights concentrated in the city centre. From here I continued to the north of Laos.
